Psychology, Wellbeing & Outside Adventures

Psychology, Wellbeing & Outside Adventures

"Open your eyes.” We spend too much time looking at our PC and mobile phones, surrounded by negativity, concrete and bricks. A day out or a weekend break, even a retreat can offer a range of mindfulness activities and adventures that allow you to switch off, relax and appreciate the natural world while having fun.

Just being outside is therapy in itself and moving psychology from the clinic room and into the countryside is becoming an increasingly popular way of delivering therapy. We have all experienced the sick building syndrome and sometimes what’s needed is the opportunity to get out into the real countryside. In these environments your mind can become inspirational and resolution to many of life’s anxieties can often be revealed. Walking and talking while relearning the skills of visual intelligence can be incredibly rewarding.

What we can offer

Easy walking or moorland hikes on a local basis which offers a protected time away from life’s external pressures, allowing you to switch off and take a well-earned break. You may be surprised at how easy the answer to a problem arises while under the guidance of an experienced therapist while walking, talking and relaxing in a natural environment.

‍Why is the countryside important for mental health

The countryside is a sanctuary for mental health well-being. The natural environment provides a break from the overwhelming stimuli of city life, which can be mentally exhausting. Studies have shown that spending time in green spaces reduces symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress (The Country Squire Magazine 2024).

A study by Censuwide spoke to more than 2,000 British people and concluded that, visiting the British countryside has improved the physical and mental health of people living in towns across Britain over the past year. (NFU 2021)

Weekend and single day outdoor adventures & retreats

We also work with a trusted colleague, Craig Perkins, Mountain Leader, who owns SAAIG Outdoors Adventures, a highly qualified and reputable adventure company based in Ingleton North Yorkshire. Adventures and activities can be undertaken in Derbyshire, North Yorkshire and Cumbria including some venues in Wales and Scotland.

Together, we can provide structured activities and retreats that can be considered as mental health wellbeing re-sets which can be accessed all year round. We can cater for people of all ages who have no experience to those who are well established in their hobby or sport or those people just wishing to experience a well-earned mental health re-set, mixed with some fun, excitement and a feeling of achievement. These days allow you and an open space to talk, reflect and be guided to problem solve. If you wish to know more please do get in touch.

So why not try a mental health reset where both adventure and psychology come together in the countryside. You can read more about this in our Blog “Moving psychology from the clinic room and into the countryside”.

Testimonials

What our clients say...

"I have been going to see Kevin Walsh for physiotherapy treatments for a variety of injuries incurred from falling off horses while competing in both flat and hunt meetings. Originally I had consulted with Kevin for an ongoing low back condition. I had previously seen several health care professionals who had encouraged preventive measures such as "don't ride". However, Kevin retrieved me from this despairing condition and encouraged me to carry on riding. I find his treatments thorough and his depth of knowledge very helpful and I really couldn't do my job without him. I would recommend him to anyone in an instant."

Emily
Amateur Jockey, St Albans

"I was not expecting such a high standard of 'Physio' on my doorstep in the countryside. For previous dance-related and ski injuries I had consulted the best I could find in London. Kevin is right up there with the professional I had consulted in the past who had worked with members of the Royal Ballet and the England football team. He truly thinks around the problem and works out a long term approach to resolving it. You know you are not just a 30 minute session in the book: you really matter and your return to fitness is an intellectual problem and a healing that Kevin really wants to achieve."

Emma
City Lawyer, London

"I came to see Kevin Walsh following a skiing accident in which I damaged the ligaments of my left knee. His care, attention, clinical knowledge and skill put me at ease. After several months I was back on my feet and skiing in Austria with confidence. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to other athletes or members of the public."

Jacey
Businesswoman, Bedford

"I have been a patient with Kevin Walsh for over two years and have received a great deal of benefit. I have seen many different professionals over a number of years and he is by far the best. I have suffered with sciatica and lower back problems, for which his in-depth knowledge, physio and acupuncture skills in particular have worked wonders and given me substantial pain relief. He is very professional, friendly, understanding and the treatment room is very relaxing and warm. Kevin is always quick to ensure you're comfortable and I would thoroughly recommend him to anybody who needs to receive the best in treatment."

Laura
Aircraft Cabin Crew Member, Bedfordshire

"When I first went to see Kevin, my back was in spasm and I could not even bend to put my socks due to the stiffness and pain. His consultation put me at ease and he was easily able to work out the problem. He was very thorough and the session didn’t feel rushed. He has a lot of high tech equipment and his soft tissue manipulations were gentle and effective. After the treatment, Kevin talked about strategies for my aftercare. I came to see him twice and felt amazing after both sessions. In the past I have seen other therapists but now I always recommend Kevin to my family and friends."

Laura

“I have been coming to see Kevin for over 10 years for massages, acupuncture and wellness. He offers a very personal service and takes his time to get to know his clients well. The atmosphere is calming, professional and friendly. He explains things to me in a way I can understand and gives advice that is beneficial. I would highly recommend his services.”

Teaching Assistant

"Very professional, reliable and a fantastic clinic to deal with all your needs. I have been here many of times and always come away happy and feeling 100% better than when I went. Would recommend Kevin Walsh to all"

Police Officer

"I have visited Kevin a couple of times now, he is very professional and friendly. He listens to you and also gives you his honest findings. Unlike a lot of private practices it's not about the money it's about the personal touch. Would highly recommend."
